As part of MTN corporate social responsibility to the citizens of the federal republic of Nigeria, the telecom company decided in July 2004 to set aside 1% Profit after Tax yearly to fund a foundation which is known as MTN Nigeria foundation.
The main objectives of the MTN foundation are as follows.
To empower the Nigerian youths economically, especially graduates from tertiary institutions in the country.
To encourage excellence in the educational sector by giving out scholarship annually to brilliant students whose parent can not afford to pay the high cost of education.
To support the health care in the 36 states of the federation including the FCT.
To benefit from the yearly MTN Nigeria foundation scholarship award of N200,000 to students of federal and state Universities, Polytechnics and colleges of education in the geo-political zones of the coutry. Also to access to MTN Nigeria foundation for economic empowerment and health support programs in the country.
