Business News – At least 300 primary school teachers in 12 local government areas of Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria have benefited from new methods of teaching, reading and writing, at a 3-Day Capacity Building Workshop held yesterday in Eket.

Declaring the workshop open, the commissioner for education, Mrs Eunice Thomas, expressed the hope that the workshop would bring to bear considerable change in the pattern of teacher behaviour to fast-track the realisation of the aims and objectives of the free and compulsory education in the state.
Thomas charged teachers to work hard to earn the respect of their pupils through knowledge of their subject matter, competence and dedication to duty, saying this was important now as every learner, even in primary schools, are quick to detect incompetence and quackery.
The commissioner said this was important because, “As we are all aware, teachers are among the critical stakeholders in the delivery of quality educational services in the Stateâ€.
The commissioner commended the sponsors and facilitators of the workshop, saying that the partnership was a welcome development as government alone cannot afford the huge funds needed for education development.
