Gunmen kills Oyo State NURTW Deputy Chairman

Nigerian News (Ibadan)— Alhaji Kamorudeen Beyioku, the Deputy Chairman of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) in Oyo State, has been killed by gunmen in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.
Beyioku, who was shot earlier in the week, died at the early hours of yesterday at the University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan, yesterday.
Medical personnel battled in vain for four days to save his life at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at the hospital.

A reliable source at the hospital disclosed that armed policemen kept vigil at the ICU while the battle to save his life lasted.
The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in the state, Mr. Ayodele Lanade, confirmed the incident but explained that he was yet to be fully briefed.
Lanade, a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), said the fortification of the hospital’s ICU was necessary to prevent the gunmen from coming to complete the killing during treatment.
Beyioku was inaugurated as the Deputy Chairman of the union last December 21 after over three years of a properly constituted State Administrative Council (SAC) for the union in the state.
Crisis engulfed the union when former Chairman, Alhaji Lateef Akinsola (aka Tokyo)-led Council was sacked by the administration of former governor Adebayo Alao-Akala in 2008.
Tokyo is still in court challenging the legality of the current SAC.
The 14-member SAC comprises Alhaji Taofeek Oyerinde, aka Fele (Chairman); Comrade Akin James (State Secretary); Elder Lekan Aleshinloye (Assistant Secretary); Alhaji Kamorudeen Beyioku (Deputy Chairman); Alhaji Abideen Olajide (Vice Chairman); Alhaji Ademola Adeoye (State Treasurer); Elder Joseph Odeyemi (Assistant Treasurer); Alhaji Musa Adeleke (Financial Secretary); Alhaji Abass Adigun (State Auditor) and Alhaji Kasali Lawal (Assistant Auditor).
The National President of the NURTW, Alhaji Nojeem Yasin, swore in the SAC to steer the affairs of the union in the state for the next four years.-TheNation
